How to care for color treated hair
- 1. Always use a wide tooth comb on color treated hair. Brushes may cause breakage.
- 2. Avoid chlorine! If you go swimming, wash the chlorine out of your hair right away!
- 3. Always use a shampoo specially made for color-treated hair. Use a conditioner for color-treated hair every time you shampoo.
- 4. Never take extremely hot showers! Hot water opens up the cuticle & releases color.
- 5. Avoid excessive exposure to the sun.

Shear Conviction is Hair Business in the Front, Photo Party in the Back. Recently opened, Shear Conviction in West Town is a trendy salon in the front and photo studio in the back. The prison-esque theme carries through from start to finish with this place – Walking in, you can get your hair cut by one of the four stylists, Sadie, Brittany, Shane, or Johnny in a rebellious cut or color. After you get your hair done you can have a free mug shot taken.
Being open two weeks ago, photographer, Nina Marie who shoots all her clients with a Nikon D300 says business couldn’t be better. Even if you don’t feel like getting your hair done, you can just have a photo session. As a grand opening special, Shear Conviction and Nina Marie’s photo company, Paparazzi Chicago are offering 25% haircuts and photo sessions until April 30th. When you purchase any salon service after the grand opening promotion, receive $50 toward any photo shoot. Prices start at $100 for a thirty-minute session and increase $50 every thirty minutes.
Haircare brands Shear Conviction carries are Biomega, Aquage, and Moroccan Oil while staff make-up artists are Mandy, Zee, and Nina Marie herself. In addition to make-up, body waxing is also available – jeeze the only thing missing from this place is the Chicago-style beat-down.

GUILTY AS CHARGED For brother-and-sister team Nina and Nino Ottolino, a cheesy pickup line—“If looking good were a crime, you’d be guilty as charged”—inspired a felon-tinged twist at their family-run West Town hair salon–cum–photo studio. Riding out the prison theme, Nina snaps a mug shot of every client posthaircut or color and posts the photo on Facebook. Photo ops go beyond Facebook, too. Clients who come in to Shear Conviction for any hair service with one of the four stylists can lop $50 off a 30-minute photo session (normally $100 for 30 minutes) with Nina, who ran a photo business during college shooting mostly models and actors. Body waxing and makeup applications are also available.
